Course sugar is similar in size to the salt on a pretzel. You could sprinkle it in coffee, but that would be a waste of its talents. It adds a little bit of crystal just by itself. If you want your cake to look like a crystalline field of snow, this is for you. Add a touch of disco dust & it will sparkle like real snow.
We also use course sugar to build the crystal structure on a geode cake.
This stuff really goes from wallflower to social butterfly when painted with a metallic color.

I’ve always loved how something as simple as coarse sugar can completely transform a cake — that crystal snow effect is chef’s kiss! 😍 I’ve been experimenting with geode-style cupcakes lately, and your tip about painting the sugar with metallics is gold (literally and figuratively lol).
Funny enough, I was browsing tachiyomapk.com the other day for some manga downloads, and saw a food-themed manga that totally reminded me of these sparkly cake designs. It’s cool how food and art blend in every medium — whether it’s baking or storytelling.
